Centrifugal vs cold-press juicer: which one should you buy?

Every juicer review ends up at the same two camps: cold-press (slow, masticating) versus centrifugal (fast). Both make good juice. They make different compromises, and which compromise you prefer depends on how you will actually use it on a Tuesday morning.
How they work
Centrifugal juicers shred fruit against a spinning mesh basket at high speed; the juice is flung through the mesh and the pulp is thrown out the back. Cold-press juicers crush and squeeze fruit slowly with an auger, like wringing a cloth.
Head to head
| Centrifugal | Cold-press | |
|---|---|---|
| Time for 500 ml | ≈ 1 minute | ≈ 4–5 minutes |
| Prep | Whole apples through a 75 mm chute | Cut into 2–3 cm pieces |
| Yield (hard fruit) | Good | Slightly better (5–10%) |
| Yield (leafy greens) | Fair | Excellent |
| Nutrients | Slightly lower; drink fresh | Slightly higher; keeps 48 h |
| Noise | Loud for a minute | Quiet for five |
| Cleaning | 3–4 parts, dishwasher-safe | 6–8 parts, mostly hand-wash |
| Price | Lower | 2–3× higher |
Who should buy cold-press
People who juice mostly greens, wheatgrass and soft fruit; people who batch-juice for two days; and people for whom the last 5% of nutrients is the point. If you make green juice every day and do not mind the clean-up, cold-press is worth its price.
Who should buy centrifugal
Everyone else. If your juice is orange-carrot-apple-ginger, if you make it and drink it straight away, and if a fast clean-up decides whether the juicer gets used or goes into a cupboard, centrifugal is the honest answer. Speed is the feature that keeps a juicer on the counter.
The third option: a juicer that does other jobs
The RADOCO RD-3011ST is a 1200 W centrifugal juicer with a 75 mm chute and a 1 L jug — plus a blender jar, a grinder and a chopper attachment on the same base. For a small kitchen that replaces three appliances. The stainless-steel parts are dishwasher-safe, and the two speeds plus pulse cover soft fruit (speed 1) and hard vegetables (speed 2).
Getting the most from a centrifugal juicer
- Alternate soft and hard produce — a piece of apple after a handful of spinach pushes the greens through.
- Do not press hard on the pusher; let the blade take the fruit at its own pace for better yield.
- Juice citrus peeled, apples and carrots unpeeled, ginger with the skin on.
- Rinse the mesh basket immediately under the tap with the supplied brush — dried pulp is the only hard part to clean.

Frequently asked questions
Does centrifugal juicing destroy nutrients?
It reduces some — mainly by oxidation from the extra air mixed in. Drink the juice within 20 minutes and the difference is small. Cold-press juice keeps for up to 48 hours in the fridge.
Can a centrifugal juicer do leafy greens?
Yes, but the yield is lower. Roll spinach or kale into a tight ball and feed it between hard items such as apple or carrot.
What does 4-in-1 mean on the RD-3011ST?
Juicer, blender, grinder and chopper attachments on one 1200 W motor base — juice in the morning, smoothie at lunch, spice grinding for dinner.
